chapter 14,15,16,17 Mood Swings

For the 4 chapters I'm going to discus Holden's rapid mood swings. During my reading of the four chapters in the book. I have discovered a great amount of signs of rapid mood swings. For example, on chapter 14 Holden was sad and crying due to the reason of Maurice punching him in the stomach and Sunny grabbing $5 out of Holden's wallet. After Maurice and Sunny left Holden stayed for a bit then instantly turned insane and wanted to kill every one with a assault rifle. Another example is on chapter 17 when Holden is horse playing with Sally in the taxi cab and is all in love. Then when there almost done ice skating Holden randomly becomes a meanie and tells Sally that she is a "royal pain in the ass" (72). Given this information, I believe that Holden suffers from bipolar disorder. See the link below for more information.

"All of a sudden I started to cry" (56) "But I'm crazy. I swear to God I am. About halfway to the bathroom, I sort of started pretending I had a bullet in my guts. Old 'Maurice had plugged me. Now I was on the way to the bathroom to get a good shot of bourbon or something to steady my nerves and help me really go into action. I pictured myself coming out of the goddam bathroom, dressed and all, with my automatic in my pocket, and  staggering around a little bit. Then I'd walk downstairs, instead of using the elevator. I'd hold onto the banister and all, with this blood trickling out of the side of my mouth a little at a time. What  I'd do, I'd walk down a few floors--holding onto my guts, blood leaking all over the place-- and then I'd ring the elevator bell. As soon as old Maurice opened the doors, he'd see me with the automatic in my hand and he'd start screaming at me, in this very high-pitched, yellow-belly voice, to leave him alone. But I'd plug him anyway. Six shots right through his fat hairy belly" (56). That's another example of how Holden is bipolar.

Test Post Chapter 10-11

Test Post:

During my time reading Catcher in the rye, I found that it was quite interesting that Holden was trying to get with women that was older then 21 even though he was only 17 years old. Back then must of had been way different, because if it was like now days, he wouldn't even be able to get in to the club, due to clubs being 18+.
Here's more info on legal age limits:

I thought it was quite surprising that the three women danced with him even knowing that he was 17. Also to add on that, After he was done dancing and "on my way out to the lobby, I got old Jane Gallagher on the brain again" (76).  I thought it was really strange because out of the blue with nothing leading up to it, he just randomly thinks about Jane.
